Alternative concerts are something that a lot of people do not really get or understand today. It becomes mainstream in the early 90’s and is simply known as alt-rock which makes it different from rock music. In Chicago, Illinois, there are a handful of on events this year and in 2019, however below are some of the concerts worth checking out

  1. Carbon Leaf – This is a Richmond, Virginia quintet that is widely known for their Celtic, alternative country and folk-infused indie rock music. The band members have changed over the year, however, the quality of their music has remained consistent ever since they started performing in the early 90s. Come July 2018 they will be at the City Winery.
  2. Pearl Jam – They are an American Rock group that started in Seattle, Washington in 1990. The band consists of Jeff Ament, Mike McCready, Eddie Vedder, and Stone Gossard. Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL is where they will be found in July.
  3. Toad the Wet Sprocket – This very popular band started making music in 1986. The people in the band are Dean Dinning who is a bassist, Todd Nichols who is a guitarist, Glen Phillips who is both a guitarist and vocalists and finally Randy Guss who is a drummer. They have had plenty of success on the charts in the 90s with songs like “Good intentions”, “Fall down”, “ Walk on the ocean”, “something’s always wrong” and “All I want”
  4. The Bacon Brothers – This musical duo is comprised of Kevin Bacon and Michael Bacon will be performing at the City Winery. The boys have to work as a band since 1995 and it is great to see them performing.
  5. The Pat McGee Band – Coming straight from Richmond, Virginia, this is a rock band led by frontman Pat McGee. The band released their debut album called “Shine” in 2000 and had hits such as “Rebecca” and “Runaway”.
  6. Edwin McCain – Known for his hit song called “I’ll Be” which came out in 1998 is an American musician and singer-songwriter. In 1999 he also found success with “I Could Not Ask for More” and has 5 albums to his name.
  7. Dirty Projectors – With 8 full albums under their belt, Dirty Projectors are an American indie rock band led by David Longstreth. The band has changed a lot since it was formed in 2002 and found plenty of success thanks to the contributions made my vocalist and guitarists Amber Coffman between 2007 to 2013.
  8. Okkervil Rivers – This rock band is from Austin Texas and is led by songwriter-singer Will Sheff. They started as a trio but just like many bands in this day and age, members have come and gone.
  9. Wye Oak – This well known Indie rock duo hail from Baltimore, Maryland and consist of Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack. Their music is described in many quarters as indie folk or “earnest folk-influenced indie rock with touches of dream pop and noise”. They have been performing at music events for years and in July, they will be at the Thalia Hall
